question of the week:
********
how do you store/keep your spices?
i keep them in the cabinet above my stove and microwave...pictured below.
the problem with this set up is i have a lot of spices. and they are a pain to go through. while looking through all of the spices majority of them end up on the side of the stove because the spice i'm looking for is, of course is in the back behind all of the other spices.
i do have this spice holder that i got as a gift awhile ago, and it holds 7 spices.
this is where the rest of my spices go. not organized all about to fall out of cabinet because they are all squished to the edge.
this is the pile of spices i have taken out of the cabinet looking for the particular spice that was still in the cabinet.
...still looking, still more spices to go through.
it's a pain. it's high up and hard to look through. i need something that actually works.
so tell me:

Hi April.... just wanted to let you know that I read your blogs all the time and I love love love them!I really look forward to them. I can relate to you in so many ways! Do you have room in there for a tiered lazy susan? I keep all my spices an a 3 tiered lazy susan... Mine came with the cabinets but you can buy them at Lowes. They are the heavy duty ones that attach to the top and bottom of the cabinet by a huge pole. Hope that helps! Sara Maher-Keim
I use something like this: http://www.target.com/Michael-Graves-Design-2-Tier-Rotating/dp/B002YXP3X0/ref=sc_qi_detailbutton but not quite. Mine is white and has two levels and it spins, so you have two levels and it's easy to get to them all. I got it at Target with the other kitchen storage stuff (like the silverware holders/drawer organizers, etc.)
We keep our spices behind the stove, sort of. On that ledge that the stove makes. and we have a rack from pier 1. Oh, and we keep them on a ledge next to the stove too. Basically, we keep them all over the place.
We, too, have too many spices! We could definitely use one of those lazy susan/turn-table thingys! For now, it's divided like this:
top shelf, left side: savory/cooking spices
top shelf, right side: sweet/baking spices
bottom shelf, left side: Costco-size containers of our most used
bottom shelf, right side: most used, favorites
so there's still digging, but things are broken down by typical type of cooking done. Except with our Costco-size spices - we just both know what we have industrial amounts of, and there's only a dozen of those, so it's not too much work to move those around. :-)
There's a really cute idea at Umbra.com that I want to do, but I don't know how ideal it is. It's a magnetic spice rack that is affixed to the wall.
Yes, Sara M's idea is probably the best!! And her kitchen is really nice so I would take her advice.
