Family Fanatics!

My parents were in town over the weekend, and Helena was a star!
We took her to her first Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field.  I had requested Club Level seats for the air conditioned lobby inside, and we definitely utilized the facility.  Our seats were in the sun for the first few innings, so inside we went.  We found an area with big soft chairs and a TV playing the game.  We played on the floor and got fed!

Once the sun went down the temperature dropped so Helena got all bundled up!  We had a great time.

August 2013 - @ a Rockies game, and pregnant, but we didn't know it yet!
It was the last weekend of August last year when my parents visited and took us to a Rockies game.  There I am pregnant, and didn't even know it!  It's so amazing to see what can happen in a year!
Chris and I really love going to a ball game, or any live sporting event, and having Helena participate was pure joy!  I hope that one day we can take her to a Denver Bronco game!

Denver Baby Shower

A couple of weekends ago my friend Julie threw me a Denver Baby Shower.  I was thrilled and felt super blessed when she offered to throw me a shower.  There was lots of little details for this little "angel", and just hanging out with some friends, created a nice laid back Saturday morning brunch!

A lot of my friends have had babies in recent years so I got some awesome gear that I didn't even know existed, but that they know I will need.  I am truly so appreciative to have these ladies in my life.
Chris' mom drove out with his friend's Mike and Angela, so having people travel for this little babe definitely added to the event.  Mary even made some freezer meals so we'll have food once baby is born!
The weekend was super special all around.

So Excited!

Larimer Square - Downtown Denver

Civic Center building - Denver, CO

Empire State Building - NYC

HA!

I'm so excited for tomorrow!  The Broncos are going to the Super Bowl!  I'm definitely what I would call a band wagon fan.  I didn't really get into the Broncos or football until I moved here.  Prior to living here I never really followed the NFL.  I would definitely watch the Super Bowl, but the Denver Broncos are the first team I feel invested in.  I remember the first home Bronco game after I moved here.  It was August 2002, and I drove down to the stadium prior to the game, just to see it fill up with people.  At the time the stadium was Invesco Field at Mile High.  The stadium is located right off of I-25 and Colfax, in the heart of Denver.  I drove down with all the Bronco fans, and I called my mom with chills being so excited to just be near all the energy coming off of the stadium.  At that moment my loyalty to the Broncos definitely increased.
Since then I've gone to a total of 1 preseason game, and 4 regular season games.  And like the energy from just driving by the game day field, seeing a game live is such an event!  I love any event  live, but Denver Bronco football live is just amazing.  From the sky divers landing in the stadium,  to yelling "IN-COM-PLETE" every time the opposing team throws an incomplete pass, it's just so much fun.  And well if the game is fun, entertaining, and ends with a win, that's the icing on the cake!
I've definitely become a much more invested fan since meeting Chris.  He's been a loyal Bronco fan since the John Elway days.  He's taught me so much about the game, and with my new knowledge it makes watching the games so much better.
And now we're going to the most watched sporting event in the world: THE SUPER BOWL!!!!  It feels very reminiscent to when the Colorado Rockies went to the World Series in 2007.  The energy throughout the city is intense.   Everyone is showing their team spirit.  You seen orange and blue and "Go Broncos" signs everywhere.  It's pretty much all you hear about on the news.  It's definitely the main topic on my Facebook wall.  The main topic of discussion is "the big game".  It's so exciting.  Bronco fever is everywhere.
I am by no means a professional sports person, but I of course do have my thoughts on tomorrow's game.  We're going up against the number one defense, with our number one offense.  It'll be an entertaining game, for sure.  I predict it'll start out with a couple of 4 and out's from both sides, until a good rhythm gets established.  So I think the beginning might be a little boring, before the true excitement starts late in the 1st quarter, 2nd quarter at the latest.  I hope that we get on the scoreboard first, but I'm not too positive either way.  But I think once a team as points on the board, is when the true momentum will really pick up.  I think the Broncos are a more seasoned team.  We have more seasoned players compared to Seattle.  I think for both sides this is a positive and a negative.  Peyton Manning is a quarterback through in through.  He expects his offense to protect him, and in his mind his one and only job is to throw the ball.  He is your textbook quarterback.  I think this is good, because he will get the job done, and will get it done well.  However, there are times when a quarterback does need to run with the ball.  This is where having a seasoned quarterback that is prone to injury hurts us.  Peyton has no desire to run with the ball.  Fine, that's not his job I get it.  However this is a pro for Seattle.  Their QB will run with the ball if need be.  But at the same time, I think he runs with the ball a little too much.  I think he needs to work on the basic foundation of what a good quarterback should do: throw the ball.  Peyton uses his whole entire team: pro.  The other dude tries to make it a one man show: con.  You can't win a Super Bowl by yourself.  I've hardly spent anytime watching the Seahawks this season, this is just my extremely small observation watching the small glimpse of their last playoff game against the 49ers.  So take what I say about them with a grain of salt.
Another hurdle I think the Broncos will have, is that the Broncos get cocky.  And well, that's just unattractive.  I think that's why we lost the 3 games that we lost this season.  We were cocky, went in with the expectation that we would win and we didn't put our all into the game.  The other team prepared better, and wanted to prove that they could bet us.  They played better, and it was too late for us to come back.  So the other team ended up being the better team, and won.  I think for the most part we are favored for tomorrows game, I just really hope we don't go into thinking "We've got this in the bag."  Tomorrow's game won't be easy, and I think we have a lot to prove before we can rise up and declare being the number one team in the NFL.
Regardless of what happens I'm truly proud to be a Denver Bronco fan, and I think going to this event has done a lot of positive things for our city.  Of course, I hope we pull a big fat W at the end of this, but if not, the team itself as done a ton of growing in the 2 short season's we've had Peyton as our QB.  I know there will definitely be some growth come our next QB, and hopefully we'll establish the growth back to the top because being part of a Super Bowl bound team is a helluva a lot of fun!

GO BRONCOS!!!

My Birthday Weekend

On Sunday I turned 34.  I honestly don’t know how I feel about this.  I suppose I feel ok, since I still feel like I’m in my 20’s.  But since turning 30 I’ve had some pretty major life changing stuff happen to me.  I guess it’s just weird to me to think that I’m in my mid-thirties.  I also think about what 34 will bring.  I’ll be a Mom at 34.  Sounds like a good age to me.  I think a couple of years earlier would have been ok too, but I’ve learned that my life’s plan wasn’t and isn’t up to me.

My birthday is a big deal to me.  I’ve had some pretty horrible birthdays, and some fantastic ones.  This one ranks high with the best.  I truly value a plan, and this is something Chris as grown into as we’ve known each other.  I knew that he had my birthday weekend planned before Christmas, and with that I was already so impressed.  The weeks leading up to the big day I could tell we would be going somewhere, I just didn’t know where.
On Saturday morning we woke up, and he advised me we would be going down to Colorado Springs to stay at the Broadmoor Hotel.  Prior to living in Colorado I had never heard of this hotel, but it’s pretty popular and super fancy.  I was so excited.  He had our meals plans (another big score) and off we went.  We had breakfast downtown, and stopped at IKEA before arriving in the Springs.  We made our first big purchase at IKEA for Baby Sweat: a white dresser for $80!
Once we arrived at the Broadmoor it was like we were a world away.  The hotel itself is sorta tucked up against the mountains, like Albuquerque the mountains in CO Springs are much closer to the actual city compared to Denver.  We had our car valet and treated like royalty.  We were escorted inside the original lobby from 1919, and checked-in.  From there a bellman escorted us to our room and gave us a little history behind the property.  High class all the way around.  Once we checked out everything in the room we walked around the property.  We stopped and had a snack at the coffee/pastry shop.  Then did some shopping.
While walking around I could just imagine people walking around in the 1920’s (one of my favorite times in US History), with their skinny cigarette’s and formal wear of flapper dresses and top hats.  I imagine a place like the Broadmoor was a place to go and be seen back then.  The hotel as lots of specialty shops so we walked around and looked at all the high-end fancy stuff.  After shopping for a bit we went back to the room and got ready for dinner.  Then we walked around this beautiful lake they have between the properties.  We stopped by where the indoor pool and spa were, very glamorous!  Then we made our way inside to just sit and relax.  The hotel itself has so many details.  Tiles and flowers, and beautiful chandeliers.  I really wish I would have taken more pictures!  It reminded me of what an old school Bellagio would be like.  After just hanging out for a bit we went to dinner on site at a restaurant called the Tavern, a classic steak and seafood place.  Very delicious!  After dinner the restaurant had live music, so we did some dancing which I truly enjoyed.  Dancing with Chris was a big highlight for me!  Sunday we went to the popular Sunday Brunch.  I’m not a big fan of buffets, just because there is so much, and that is true for this one.  So.Much.Food.  But we had a great time, and had lots of good stuff.
Then we were on the road back home, and made it back just in time to watch the Bronco game!  Such a good game, and for the most part we played really well.  Ending my birthday with a Bronco win and a trip to the Super Bowl was just the cherry on top!
This little getaway will most likely be the last one for awhile, as we have a list of “to-do’s” to prepare for Baby Sweat in the next few months.  I truly appreciate everything that Chris has done, and this birthday was a big example of that.

One Year Wedding Anniversary

On Saturday Chris and celebrated our one year wedding anniversary.  I realize we have a lifetime to go, but this was a big deal for me.  Mainly because I never thought I would get married.  The idea is still strange to me that I’m a married woman!  And now I’m a married woman, who has been married for a year!  Ha!
I feel truly blessed to be married to Chris.  He's the perfect man for me.  Sometimes I can be too serious and a little bit too crazy, and he's always there to remind me to laugh.  He helps me relax, sit back, and enjoy the ride.  For that I'm grateful!
Anyways, Chris and I celebrated with a little mountain getaway to Steamboat Springs, CO.  Just like last year, the Denver area got its first dusting of snow on the first Friday of October.  Along with some major snow in the mountains.  Thankfully we didn’t leave for Steamboat until Saturday morning, when it was done snowing.  Once we got West of the Eisenhower tunnel though the roads were definitely snowy and icy in spots.  So getting there took a little bit longer than anticipated.  It was the perfect retreat as Chris and I had never been there.  The tree’s were changing, and we saw beautiful golds and reds, with a dusting of white!  It was truly gorgeous.  We stayed at the Victorian Bed and Breakfast.  It was fantastic.  Super cute bed and breakfast.  We got settled in, then headed off to dinner at Café Diva.  Yummy dinner!  My favorite part was the kale salad.  Super delish!  The dinner was super nice, as we shared memories of our wedding day, and milestones of our first year of marriage
Sunday morning we had breakfast with the other three couples that stayed the night at the bed and breakfast.  I think that is always fun, chit chatting with other couples, getting to know part of their story.  After breakfast we got ready for the day, then headed into town.  Steamboat is a lot more spread out compared to other mountain towns in my opinion.  They have one main street with all the shops and everything, and one main street on the river!  The morning was definitely chilly, but we bundled up and enjoyed browsing in all the shops.  We stopped at Sunpie's Bistro, a total dive bar with excellent Cajun food!  Chris and I shared a fantastic shrimp po’boy sandwich!  Delish.  After our lunch we went back to the empty bed and breakfast.  All the other couples left on Sunday, and we were the only occupants on Sunday night.  So we decided to watch the Bronco game in the theater room, with a huge projector screen TV!  We ended the day at a local Italian restaurant.

Monday morning we slept in, leisurely got ready, and had breakfast staring out into the beautiful mountain valley!  We then started the drive back to Denver.
It was a wonderful and relaxing trip.  Steamboat was great, as it was too early for ski season, so I felt like we had the whole town to ourselves!  I love going new places, and experiences someplace new with my husband was perfect.  It was great to be together, reminisce, and plan for the future.

another wedding

Let's focus on another bride.  Andrea was a beautiful bride, and I was so happy and giddy when she invited Chris and I to her 9/22/12 wedding.  Andrea is my new friend whom I've gotten extremely close with over the past 6+ months, as we've been planning our wedding's essentially side by side.  She's truly been a life-saver as she knows exactly where I'm going and where I've been in the wedding planning world.  Our weddings definitely have some similarities but obviously some differences.  They are unique to us, but the time, energy, and small details are well spent.
first kiss!
I knew so many of the small details of her day.  From the candles, to her shoes, the hair, veil, centerpieces, table "numbers", the wishing tree....and I'm so excited that she gets to share in my day in 4 days!  She knows all of the details and all of the surprises!...she's truly the only person that knows it all.  I know she'll appreciate them, and know the work that went into everything.
beautiful couple!  congratulations Andrea & Ryan!!!
She's fully aware of the crazy roller coaster ride that planning a wedding takes, and thank goodness she's back at work this week!, I truly missed her while she was out celebrating on her South Beach, FL honeymoon.

I'm so thankful that she entered my life that when she did, and I hope that we continue our friendship to be lifelong friends!
